My Story, Your Story, History
Stories are how we pass on our lives to those who follow us. We
all recall the stories of our parents or grandparents – stories that brought their past to life, and helped us touch the world that
they knew and the people who they loved. Find the story gold in
your own life and learn ways to share it with those around you
in this engaging workshop, appropriate for anyone over 30, and
especially seniors. (Please bring a childhood photo of yourself.)
Doug Lipman — Thursday, June 17 • 9:00–11:30 am • $40.00
Message Telling: Guiding Your Listeners to Meaning Through Storytelling
Our familiar forms of communication—logical argument, bullet
points and the like—excel at conveying meaning precisely.
Storytelling, on the other hand, excels at creating emotional
commitment and buy-in. Wouldn’t it be great to achieve in
your speaking the precision of conceptual language and the
emotional buy-in of storytelling? If you need to communicate
complex meanings with maximum impact, you will find this
workshop both stimulating and practical. Especially appropriate
for business people and non-profit staff.
Gay Ducey — Friday, July 9 • 9:00–11:00 am • $20.00
Catch Them If You Can: A Workshop Devoted to the Elusive Art of Making a Reader
The preschooler who loves books becomes the fourth grader
who can’t be bothered; the child whose eyes shine during
reading aloud becomes the kid who only reads his text
messages. It doesn’t have to be that way! Take some time to explore effective techniques for engaging kids in reading,
affirming what works and what doesn’t. You’ll leave with a
pocketful of good ideas. Great for both childhood educators
and parents.
